The programme aims to recognise companies of all sizes across Europe that have developed schemes that help people facing barriers to work increase their employability skills.
The awards recognise companies that are developing employee volunteering programmes to help people facing barriers to work improve their employability skills and respond to the social needs of groups considered by the European Commission particularly important and in need of support. They are aligned to the European Year of Volunteering 2011 and partly funded by the European Commission.
The nomination of our University was with regard to a project started in 2010 as a co-operation between the MUL and Łodź Archdiocese which aimed at the promotion of the idea of volunteering among the employees, retirees and students of the MUL and the support of the Home Hospice Teams.
The MUL has won the Polish edition of the European Employee Volunteering Awards in the categories Innovation and Newcomer and will now compete at a European level. The competition is currently being run in 24 European countries in five different categories: Large Company, Small Company, Innovation, Newcomer and Public Authorities. The best European Employee Volunteering programmes will be announced and showcased at Business in the Community’s Convention on Responsible Business in March 2011.
The international co-ordinator is the UK network Business In The Community, in Poland it is the Volunteering Centre Association.
