Wampiriada – Vampire Feast ('cus every drop counts)
The National Student Association has initiated a nationwide campaign for blood donation. It is an information and promotion action which spreads the idea of regular blood donation among university students around the country.
The action’s website www.wampiriada.pl contains information on the importance of blood donation, the value of blood to patients dependent on blood, plasma and blood-based medicines and explains the way to join in. There you will find FAQ and answers which inform who can become a blood donor, who can receive blood, how to prepare for the donation. Those who would like to help but are afraid of needles can find comforting information for the anxious.
The site is in Polish only, but your fellow students will tell you exactly what to do, so do not delay your decision. Make sure you comply with the rules on vaccinations and tropical diseases. Do not give blood if you have a health problem, low hemoglobin, if you are on medication (e.g. antibiotics), if you have recently had piercing or tattoo. You must be over 18 and hold a photo ID. You will be qualified by the doctor supervising the action. If you have diabetes or a genetic disease you will not qualify, thou.
In the process you loose 450 mls of blood which quickly reproduces. If you drink enough water and rest for a while there should be no side effects.
General information on blood donation provides Wikipedia.

6th Annual FUNDRAISER

April, the 9th! It was a night of fun and delight as the Auditorium at ul. Narutowicza 122 filled up with students and faculty of the Medical University of Lodz for the 6th Annual FUNDRAISER!
Joining them were children from the Local Orphanage Number 1 and 2 who were the reason for this year's Fundraiser. Under the supervision of the English Division, this year proved out to be more successful than the previous years. Not only was the attendance much higher but also, the amount raised till now ranged around 14,000 zlotys and we hope to hit the mark of 15,000 zlotys soon after the final calculations are over. Why such a big difference this year you may ask? This is due to the help of a dedicated and hardworking team, who made sure that they used every single resource they had at their disposal.
The theme for this year was to make sure that the community of Lodz got involved in the task of helping with the fundraiser. Thus, sponsors from all walkes of life came together to aid the student government. Their generous donations along with support made this task that much easier, resulting in an evening filled with both students and professionals coming together to make a difference in the lives of these children. In honor of continuing the traditions, we believe that this is but another step forward as we work together to bridge a bond between us and the community around us.
A heart felt thank you goes out to all those who have dedicated their time and effort to make this evening something to be remembered.
Thank You
and see you next year

The student government of the English division in association with Polish student government organized a 2 day trip to Krakow on March 5, 2011. This trip gave us a chance to view and explore the rich culture of Poland outside Lodz. Krakow was chosen because its history and a chance to tour the Auschwitz Death Camp in Oswiecim and Wieliczka Salt Mine. Some of the other places visited were The Wawel Castle, The Jewish Quarter (Kazimierz), St. Mary's Basilica, other Churches in Krakow (Basilica of Corpus Christi (Kosciol Bozego Ciala) in Kazimierz, Skalka Monastery & Pauline Church, The Wawel Cathedral, St Catherine's Church (Kazimierz), St. Florian's Gate and the Barbican, The Cloth Hall (Sukiennice) and Old Town Streets. We stayed at one of the guest houses in Jagiellonian University which gave some of the students the opportunity to integrate with some of the students of that university. The trip was partly financed by the student government. Attached are some of the group pictures that we took.
Sincerely,
